Krista Audere conducts the Swedish Radio Choir at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, with Caroline Shaw’s rhythmic In waves, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi’s Canticum Calamitatis Maritimae written in memory of the victims of the Estonia disaster, and a world premiere of Alvin Vikman’s North Sea. Carl Unander-Scharin’s Calligrammes is performed by the composer himself together with a guest soloist and the Swedish Radio Choir. Choreography and dance by Åsa Unander-Scharin.

Krista Audere, conductor

Krista Audere is a Latvian conductor based in the Netherlands. She leads the VU-Kamerkoor and Kamerkoor Venus, and frequently guest conducts the Dutch Chamber Choir, Dutch Radio Choir, and Cappella Amsterdam. In 2024, she became the main subject teacher of Choral Conducting at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and, in 2025, the first Principal Guest Conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir. In 2028, she will succeed Daniel Reuss as the artistic leader and chief conductor of Cappella Amsterdam.

Winner of the 2021 Eric Ericson Award, Krista has engagements in the 2024/25 season with several prestigious choirs, including the State Choir Latvia, Swedish Radio Choir, Spanish National Choir, Bavarian Radio Choir, Danish National Vocal Ensemble, Chamber Choir Ireland, Berlin Radio Choir, WDR Rundfunkchor Köln, and RIAS Kammerchor Berlin.

Krista graduated from Riga Dom Choir School and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, later earning a Master’s degree cum laude from the Amsterdam University of the Arts. She has collaborated with the Latvian Radio Choir and Cappella Amsterdam as a singer and frequently serves as a jury member and masterclass instructor in choral conducting.

Swedish Radio Choir

32 professional choristers make up the Swedish Radio Choir: a unique, dynamic instrument hailed by music-lovers and critics all over the world. The Swedish Radio Choir performs at Berwaldhallen, concert hall of the Swedish Radio, as well as on tours all over the country and the world. Also, they are heard regularly by millions of listeners on Swedish Radio P2, Berwaldhallen Play and globally through the EBU.

The award-winning Latvian conductor Kaspars Putniņš was appointed Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir in 2020. Since January 2019, its choirmaster is French orchestral and choral conductor Marc Korovitch, with responsibility for the choir’s vocal development.

The Swedish Radio Choir was founded in 1925, the same year as Sweden’s inaugural radio broadcasts, and gave its first concert in May that year. Multiple acclaimed and award-winning albums can be found in the choir’s record catalogue. Late 2023 saw the release of Kaspars Putniņš first album with the choir: Robert Schumann’s Missa sacra, recorded with organist Johan Hammarström.

Carl Unander-Scharin

Carl Unander-Scharin har studerat vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan, Operahögskolan och KTH. Carl är specialiserad på höga lyriska tenor-partier och var mellan 2000–2010 anställd på Kungliga Operan i Stockholm. Parallellt med sin omfattande verksamhet som tenor är Carl en produktiv kompositör. Bland hans kompositioner märks tio operor, musik för film, tv och dans samt körverk och oratorier. Hans interaktiva verk, baserade på specialutvecklad teknologi har rönt stor uppmärksamhet både i Sverige och internationellt.

Under åren 2011–2014 var Carl gästprofessor vid Operahögskolan i Stockholm. Sedan 2015 innehar han en liknande position vid Karlstads universitet. I januari 2015 disputerade Carl vid KTH med avhandlingen Extending Opera – Artist-led Explorations in Operatic Practice through Interactivity and Electronics. Carl är ledamot av Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien.

Åsa Unander-Scharin, choreography

Åsa Unander-Scharin är en svensk koreograf, konstnärlig forskare och professor i musikalisk gestaltning vid Luleå Tekniska Universitet. Hon disputerade 2008 på avhandlingen Mänsklig mekanik och besjälade maskiner och kopplingen mellan människa och maskiner har gått som en röd tråd genom hennes konstnärskap vilket resulterat i verk som The Lamentations of Orpheus, Petrushka’s Cry och Olimpia.

Hon har gjort ett trettiotal sceniska dansverk och dessutom koreograferat operor för Vadstenaakademien och Piteå kammaropera, bland andra Claudius, Girello, Tokfursten och Byrgitta, samt Nationalbaletten i Hanoi. Hon har också gjort dansfilmer för Sveriges Television som Elevation och Artificial Body Voices.
